We are expecting........

Baby chicks!!!! We have never done this before, so I hope it is successful or I am going to have one very sad little boy on my hands!!!! We get our eating eggs from a farmer that lives about 5 minutes away from our house. They are the nicest family, they always show Adam any of their new animals. Adam loves going there, they have a horse, cows, chickens, miniature horse, pig, dogs, turkeys, just about any animal that would live on a farm, they have had it at one time. It is a hobby farm when I typed pig, that wasn't an error, they really only had one pig. We told them when we started homeschooling Adam and they thought this might be a fun science project for us. We are using their incubator and they provided us with the fertilized eggs yesterday.

They believe the eggs were about 3 days old so, today they would be 5 days old. Which means our due date should be April 30!!! Did you know, that at day 5: The chick's head is now half as big as its body, and its eyes are very large. Its tail has begun to grow. Wings and legs are forming. I think Mr. fun and I might be more excited about this than Adam. Although he is very into it! He is a little disappointed that they have not hatched yet, and we just got them yesterday.

I think every couple days I will try to have Adam do a video about what is going on with them. He has also been journaling about it. He doesn't like to write much unless it is about something he is into. He was excited to write in his journal today!! And no we are not keeping the baby chicks, we will until they are old enough to live outside on their own. They will then go back to our farmer friend and Adam will get to visit them weekly!!

my computer is so slow at downloading I haven't watched the video yet, but must say I am excited to see these new additions to your family....
I hadn't ck'd your blog for awhile, and I must say, you have been busy! Great pictures...(and entries) and I love the song "Were you there" , we have a CD from VBS a few years ago w/it on there, and it is still Talias "nighttime" music. Hadn't heard that Johnny Cash version though, very nice!Welcome Spring!!! Lisa

Cool! We have chickens, too. Yesterday my husband brought 50 (!) eggs to the neighbor's and put them in his incubator. Its fancy and turns them for you. I think he's crazy. I don't need that many more animals to take care of. I like it best when the hens hatch their own eggs because they take care of the peeps. Do you have plans for making a brooder?
